I just had to share this moment of serendipity with the world. I'm sitting at home, pounding my head on my desk trying to connect to my company's terrible VPN. I went to put some dead batteries into my bag to bring in to work tommorow to recycle. I put the batteries in a little inside pocket and notice there's something in there. I pull out two business cards that I picked up at the conference where I got the bag -- ETech. I decide to visit the websites on the cards to see if they are still around. The first card is Dan Grigsby, unpossible.com. I land on the page to read this post... this post that mentions ETech the very same conference I got the card. What a coincidence!

Then, I look at the second card. You guessed it, Pete Forde, Unspace. What are the odds?

You're very deserving, Dan! And tomorrow at Minnebar, the event you helped make a reality, we'll all be reminded again of your contribution to our community. I think this third annual meetup may just be the biggest and best tech/startup event *ever* in Minnesota. Thanks for all you do!

cheers,
Graeme

I've been thinking a lot about this issue. At GovDelivery, our objective is to "do as much good as possible for our clients and the public they serve" with the resources we have available.

I like how you talk about features at the end of your analogy because for us, it's not just about our market, it's also about the features within our app and their relative importance. I'm sometimes embarrassed when a little used piece of functionality in our application is "good enough," but I simply explain to our clients that we chose to invest in feature X (which they really wanted) over making feature Y (which hardly anyone uses) more useful. We're lucky that our clients trust us and respect our judgment on these issues, but it's still hard to just accept that certain parts of the app are always going to be "good enough" and move on.

[...] Here’s one answer and a cogent argument that is a quick read. It will give you one location to consider strongly (i.e., Minnesota) if you want A-class developers, a midwestern work ethic, an instant grasp of your vision or outcomes — and enjoy a trail already blazed by such companies as Adobe, Macromedia, Microsoft and Sun. Take a moment now and considering embracing what my friend and serial entrepreneur, Dan Grigsby, has just posted in his Plan for Minnesota. [...]
